GCMSbThe Agilent 7890A Gas Chromatograph with 5975C Mass Selector is a state of the art system added to my research laboratory in September of 2010. Two methods of sample ionization can be used: Chemical Ionization (CI) or Electron Ionization (EI).

The instrument is also equipped with a Gerstel Multipurpose Sampler (MPS2), which automates the direct injection of liquid,solid or gas samples. In addition the MPS2 can be used for Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) and Static Head Space extraction.

This Agilent 7890A Gas Chromatograph/5975C Mass selector uses an LTM series II modification enabeling 1Dx2D Gas Chromatography with heart cutting. This system represents state of the art instrumentation for chiral separations. It was added to the research laboratory in September of 2011.

The sniffing of effluent from a Gas Chromatograph is referred to as Gas Chromatography-Olfactometry or GC-O and can be used to establish a link between key compounds and sensory-consumer perceptions. Using GC-O a flavor chemist can gain information about the areas of a gas chromatogram on which to focused attention.
