- Identify, distinguish, perform algebraic operations and find solutions to equations using the integer, rational, real and complex number systems.
- Use common algebraic methods to solve linear, quadratic, polynomial, radical, and absolute value equations and inequalities.
- Translate the written problem and create algebraic models to solve real-life problems.
- Use and create algebraic functions.

The course will cover topics found in chapters 1 through 8. Seldom will complete chapters be covered. Topics from other chapters and other sources may also be covered. Tests and homework will only be from material covered in class.

Do your OWN work. Do not loan homework to a fellow student. It is OK for students to help each other and to share ideas and knowledge. Students who copy homework will receive an F for the assignment.

- Attend class prepared, ready to hand in homework and ready to work.
- If you miss a class you are responsible for the material covered. I will not re-teach the material during office hours or another class.
- You may use a calculator, unless I explicitly say you can not.
- If appropriate, a laptop, mobile device or computer may be used for note taking or for use of an e-book, however I may ask you to move to a less disruptive location. Other uses of such devices is prohibited.

- Attending class late or leaving class and returning. If you leave do not return!
- Cell phone usage / texting / usage of a recreational electronic device / internet usage.Turn them off!
- Reading outside material (Merciad, magazines, etc.)
- Sleeping or disruptive behavior
- General disrespect to students or faculty
